“Actions taken to reduce the risk of disasters and the adverse impacts of natural hazards through systematic efforts to analyze and manage the causes of disasters, including through avoidance of hazards, reduced social and economic vulnerability to hazards and improved preparedness for adverse event”.

“आपदाओं के जोखिम को कम करने और प्राकृतिक खतरों के प्रतिकूल प्रभावों को कम करने के लिए की गई कार्रवाई, आपदाओं के कारणों का विश्लेषण और प्रबंधन करने के लिए व्यवस्थित प्रयासों के माध्यम से, जिसमें खतरों से बचाव, खतरों के लिए सामाजिक और आर्थिक भेद्यता को कम करना और प्रतिकूल घटना के लिए बेहतर तैयारी शामिल है”।

Components
  • Preparedness (to boost resilience and coping capacity of vulnerable people to better face hazards);तैयारी (लचीलापन बढ़ाने के लिए और बेहतर खतरों का सामना करने के लिए कमजोर लोगों की क्षमता का मुकाबला करने के लिए)
  • Mitigation (to limit the adverse impact of various hazards);शमन (विभिन्न खतरों के प्रतिकूल प्रभाव को सीमित करने के लिए)
  • Prevention (to avoid the adverse impact of hazards outright and to minimize related disasters) रोकथाम (खतरों के प्रतिकूल प्रभाव से पूरी तरह बचने और संबंधित आपदाओं को कम करने के लिए)।.
Disaster Prevention or Disaster Reduction
  • Disaster prevention aims at avoiding disasters, which, unfortunately is not possible at all times आपदा निवारण का उद्देश्य आपदाओं से बचना है, जो दुर्भाग्य से हर समय संभव नहीं है;
  • Disaster reduction seeks to reduce or limit the severity of disasters आपदा न्यूनीकरण आपदाओं की गंभीरता को कम या सीमित करना चाहता है;
  • Disaster reduction in the broad sense includes disaster prevention. व्यापक अर्थों में आपदा न्यूनीकरण में आपदा निवारण शामिल है।

  • Uttarakhand :- 1st state in India to use Quick Deployment Antenna (QDA) technology for disaster management(आपदा प्रबंधन के लिए त्वरित परिनियोजन एंटीना (क्यूडीए) तकनीक का उपयोग करने वाला भारत का पहला राज्य).
  • India will launch its first state of the art earth observation satellite Geo Imaging Satellite (GISAT-1) to provide real time images of large areas as well as quick monitoring of natural disasters.
